Careprost is an eyelash enhancer that increases the length and darkness of your eyelashes, making them appear thicker. It’s a generic version of Latisse and is manufactured by Sun Pharma in India. The main ingredient in careprost is bimatoprost, which is known for its ability to increase eyelash growth rapidly. Results typically begin to show within eight weeks, with maximum results occurring in fourteen to sixteen weeks.
Careprost eye drops also help treat glaucoma by decreasing pressure inside the eyes. It does this by increasing the normal flow of aqueous fluid (humour) out of the eye through the trabecular network. This helps to prevent damage to the optic nerve that can cause blindness if left untreated.
This medicine should not be used if you have macular oedema or if you are taking other prostaglandin analogs such as Lumigan or Latisse for reducing intraocular pressure. This is because these medicines may interfere with the reduction in intraocular pressure that careprost eye drops are designed to achieve.
Before using the medication, make sure to wash your hands thoroughly. Remove contact lenses if you wear them and wait for at least 15 minutes before reinserting them. Also, make sure that the tip of the bottle or brush does not touch your eye, eyelashes, eyelid or your skin. You should also avoid letting any extra solution drip onto your cheek or the side of your face.
Some of the most common side effects associated with this medication include an itching sensation in the eyes and eye redness. Other less common side effects can include eye irritation, dry eyes and skin darkening. The latter side effect is caused by the drug changing the colour of the iris pigment granules to brown, and is usually permanent.
