Ubisoft's FPS has a ranked mode that's not for the faint of heart. But the Y7S4 Operation Solar Raid update revamped Siege's ranked system by separating MMR into Skill and Rank.
You start every season in a new rank from Copper through Champions, and the higher you go, the more rewards you get.
1. Bronze
As one of the most popular tactical shooters out there, Rainbow Six Siege has a thriving competitive scene and a strong playerbase. During the game's Operation Solar Raid update, Ubisoft introduced a revamped ranked mode called "Ranked 2.0" and a new rank system that has left players confused about how to climb the rankings ladder.
To determine a player's rank in the Rainbow Six Siege ranks, an algorithm compiles their wins and losses across the ranked playlist to give them a numerical skill level, known as their Matchmaking Rating (MMR). This MMR directly correlates to a rank on a scale spanning Bronze to Champion and is determined by Microsoft's TrueSkill engine, which takes average player skill and uncertainty into account with a system that becomes more accurate over time.
Your MMR will be adjusted and reset each season based on the results of your ten placement matches at the start of each new ranking cycle. To improve your MMR, you'll need to hone your aiming skills with an aim trainer, memorise the layouts of each map, and practice with all the operators to gain familiarity with their roles.
However, the amount of perks you earn for winning and losing a Rainbow Six Siege ranked match will depend on your MMR. To rank up quickly, it's best to team up with friends who have a similar MMR, but this isn't always possible with Rainbow Six Siege's ranked matchmaking. This is because the game now has a feature that prevents players from being placed in a ranked match when their MMR is more than 1000 points apart.
2. Silver
If you're a skilled player in Rainbow Six Siege, then the game's competitive ranked mode is where you want to be. Every season, you'll be placed into a tier that determines your level of play. Players who make enough progress can eventually land on one of the top ranks in the world.
The ranked system in Rainbow Six Siege is powered by Microsoft's TrueSkill engine. It takes your skill and uncertainty into account to help the matchmaking system place you in the right grouping. The more games you play, the less uncertainty there is and the closer you will be to your true skill group.
Getting placed into Silver usually requires an MMR of around 2100 to 2500, which is close to the average for ranked players. This means that it's a rank that can be difficult for some players to achieve.
In 2022, with the launch of Operation Solar Raid, Ubisoft introduced an all-new ranking system for R6 Siege. It aims to deliver a more transparent progression path for players that makes it easier to reach the top ranks in the tactical shooter.
With the new update, Rainbow Six Siege will introduce rewards for each division of a player's rank. This will help manage the disparity between ranks that existed before the recent changes to the ranked system in the tactical shooter. Players will earn these rewards for completing the ranked progression for each season. www.gameboost.com/smurf-shop
3. Gold
Rainbow Six Siege’s competitive ranked mode is one of its most rewarding features. It can also be a real grind with 64 operators to master and countless maps to learn. But how do you know when you’re ready to take the plunge and land a spot in the gold ranks?
As a rule of thumb, players who reach gold should have around 2600 or 3000 MMR. That puts them in the top 66.9% to 41.6% of ranked players in the game. But that’s not the only consideration when deciding what rank to aim for in the new season of ranked matches.
For this latest season of Rainbow Six Siege’s ranked mode, the developers have made several changes. The biggest is that the player’s MMR no longer decides their rank or Rank Points, which are calculated after each match. This is because Ubisoft believes that Siege matches are not meant to be won by a single player, but rather through teamwork. That’s why only wins and losses matter for your rank, not your Kill – Death ratio or how many bomb plants you make.
In addition to that, players’ ranked rewards will now be based on the number of divisions they climb throughout the season. This is designed to prevent players from bouncing between ranks without progressing. Finally, the newest update allows players to party up with friends regardless of their MMR thanks to an algorithm that adapts matchmaking.
4. Platinum
Seven years after launch, Rainbow Six Siege remains a popular tactical shooter that has a ton to offer players. With 64 operators, complex maps, and a variety of gadgets the game is a challenge to master, but one that is also rewarding for dedicated players. Despite that, it can be daunting to jump into Ranked mode for the first time. With the latest seasonal update, Operation Solar Raid, Ubisoft is shaking up the ranked experience with Ranked 2.0, which aims to make things clearer for newcomers and those who have played the game before.
The changes include removing placement matches and creating a new rank of Emerald, which is placed between Platinum and Diamond. Players can progress through this new division by winning games in their current rank, with each win earning 100 Rank Points. The rank system will no longer be affected by your kill-death ratio (KDA), bomb plants, or score and instead only considers wins and losses. This is in contrast to other shooters like CSGO, where factors such as a player’s use of gadgets and map knowledge are considered.
In addition, the new system also aims to reduce the gap between rank levels within platinum. This is done to encourage players who have reached this level to continue to play the game and prove that they are worth a diamond rank. However, even if you are above the platinum cap of 5,000 MMR, Ubisoft will still need to see that you have the skills required to become champion.
5. Diamond
Getting to diamond takes dedication and is a marker of the highest level of Siege players. In this rank, players are incredibly good at the game, very vocal and highly competitive. Some of these players may even be professional in some way. Moving up from here can be a daunting task, however.
With a match winning percentage of 85% or higher, players can reach the Diamond rank. It’s a very difficult rank to get to and is only held by a very small percentage of players in the ranked ladder.
In Siege ranked matches, only wins affect your rank, and losses have the opposite effect. Unlike some other tactical shooters, the game does not factor in KDA or match score to determine your rank. This is because Siege focuses on team play, and only the result of the match counts. Abandoning the match for AFK, vote-kick, or rage-quit also count as defeats, and therefore negatively impact your rank.
As part of a ranked ladder update, Ubisoft has changed how rank progression works in Rainbow Six Siege. The company is separating MMR and ranks to give players more clarity in the progression they are making. In addition, the new update will remove placement matches. The game will now rank up after each win, but the difference between your skill and your ranked MMR will be smaller than previously. This should also help prevent players from bouncing around the ladder.
6. Master
The first year of ranked Rainbow Six Siege seasons usually lasts for about three months. Since Operation Commanding Force began in March 2023, the current season should wrap up around June. That should give players a good enough amount of time to play enough matches to rank up or down.
In the past, players who performed well during their ten placement games would often receive a significant bump in rank and Elo. However, Ubisoft explains that it takes more than just your own performance into account when determining a player’s rank in Siege. The rank of your opponents is also taken into account, as are the wins and losses of both teams.
With a new season, comes a fresh ten placement matches that are used to calibrate your skill. After that, you’ll have to win a certain number of matches in order to get your true rank.
The company’s recently revealed a major shakeup to its ranked experience in the form of Ranked 2.0. In short, this changes how a player’s rank is determined and introduces a new division. There are now a total of five divisions before reaching Platinum and Diamond. Additionally, a new rank, Emerald, has been added in between Platinum and Diamond to help create a clearer separation between players. Ubisoft has also announced that placement matches and the removal of smurf accounts are coming.
